Artist, Age 33

There is no clear reason why this little self-portrait, The Artist, Age 33 (1976) should be included in this "water-forms" show except that I like it, it is the only self-portrait of me as a young artist, and . . . isn't the human body made up in large part of water? When I painted this, I had moved back in with my mother and I was living in Friendship Heights and working at a publication design firm. Once, when we were arguing, she said in exasperation, "If we were married, I'd divorce you." (Thank God for parents!)
